The playbook

The run starts read-only: the recon probes decide what happens next. The steps that follow are adapted to the distribution and state found — a real machine is rarely clean.

  1. 01recondistro, version and package manager (apt or dnf)
  2. 02reconDocker Engine + compose plugin present and running? (otherwise, docker step)
  3. 03reconghost already deployed (containers, volumes, /opt/ghost)? healthy → verify and skip; never overwrite its data
  4. 04reconlocal port 2368 free? is a reverse proxy already on 80/443?
  5. 05reconRAM ≥ 1 GB (Ghost + MySQL)
  6. 06recondoes the domain point to an IP of this server? (required for the certificate)
  7. 07actInstall Docker Engine + Compose (only if missing)verify
  8. 08actGenerate the secrets (/opt/ghost/.env)verify
  9. 09actWrite /opt/ghost/compose.yamlverify
  10. 10actStart the stackverify
  11. 11actResponds over HTTPverify
  12. 12actHTTPS reverse proxy to the appverify

What it verifies

Each step ships its own check. The run only moves on when the check passes, so what the recipe reports as done is what is actually on the server.

  1. 01Install Docker Engine + Compose (only if missing)Verified bysystemctl is-active docker && docker compose version
  2. 02Generate the secrets (/opt/ghost/.env)Verified bystat -c '%a' /opt/ghost/.env && grep -c '=' /opt/ghost/.env
  3. 03Write /opt/ghost/compose.yamlVerified bydocker compose -f /opt/ghost/compose.yaml config -q && echo ok
  4. 04Start the stackVerified bydocker compose -f /opt/ghost/compose.yaml ps --status running --format "{{.Service}}"
  5. 05Responds over HTTPVerified bytimeout 180 bash -c 'until curl -s -o /dev/null -H X-Forwarded-Proto:https http://127.0.0.1:2368/; do sleep 5; done'; curl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}' -H X-Forwarded-Proto:https http://127.0.0.1:2368/
  6. 06HTTPS reverse proxy to the appVerified bycurl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}' https://${domain}/

Guardrails

Non-negotiable instructions the run must respect, whatever it finds on the server.

Ghost needs its correct public https URL from the start; do not change the domain afterwards without saying so. Secrets in /opt/ghost/.env (600). Ghost listens on 127.0.0.1, exposed only through the HTTPS reverse proxy. Without SMTP, email verification of staff logins can block access: warn the user. Create the owner account (/ghost) right away.

How a recipe runs in Servor

Servor is zero-knowledge: the platform cannot execute anything on its own. When you launch this recipe, a run reads the reconnaissance, plans the steps and asks for your approval. Each approved command is signed by your browser — with a key the server never sees — then relayed verbatim to the agent, which verifies the signature locally before executing.

actinstall fail2ban · write default jails✓
actenable service · restart sshd (safe)✓
verifytest ban 60s · jails active · sshd alive✓

search by intent — type “firewall”, get ufw

  • 01Read-only reconnaissance before any change
  • 02Every command signed by your browser, approved by you
  • 03Each step verified before the run moves on, every run kept in the history
